In collaboration with the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) comes the Climate-Conscious Scavenger Hunt in Tarndanya/Adelaide!

FREE COMMUNITY EVENT - SPACES ARE LIMITED

Discover the Adelaide CBD through a green lens. The hunt includes a variety of fun, interactive challenges, allowing you to observe biodiversity, find green initiatives, and propose areas for improvement on how we can better embrace and collaborate with nature in our beautiful city.

We will meet at the Adelaide Riverbank Lawns at 2pm, have a brief introduction and welcome circle before splitting off into groups and beginning the challenge. Please aim to arrive 10 minutes early so we have optimal scavenging time!

The hunt aspect is purely to discover the wonders of the beautiful land in Tardanya/Adelaide, you will be asked to take some photos, but please do not touch or interact with plants or wildlife that you may encounter along the experience.

Come along to meet new people, find out how you can be more active in the community, and come away with a strengthened love for the environment.

Psst, yes, there’ll be a prize for the team with the most points but everyone gets a little something to say thank you for coming!

Wagtail Urban Farm went out with a bang in the beginning of 2023. After having to leave the site that they tended in Mitchell Park for 10 years, the gardening bug bit harder than ever!

Since then, Carla and Steven have been busily plotting how they would improve their micro-scale, homegrown set up again if they could start from scratch.

“Waggie Two” is just that. Using a northern face to capture as much sunlight as possible, limiting nutrients that leave the property and using every spare centimetre to grow food or habitat, their new endeavour, even in it’s infancy, is already taking shape and showing what is possible on a suburban block!

More than a year on from the unprecedented algal bloom, we’re bringing together scientists, dive operators, and ocean advocates once again to share the latest updates from the frontlines. We’ll discuss the continuing ecological impacts, including the concerning absence of Whyalla’s iconic giant cuttlefish aggregation, and explore what these changes mean for marine life, tourism, and the communities that depend on healthy oceans.

Join us at the Flinders Park Community Garden for a hands on gardening experience. Our community garden is a free space where anyone can pick what they need, and meet their local community in a friendly relaxed atmosphere.

This workshop will be presented by Drew Kilner from Walking Together with Kaurna, alongside Steven Hoepfner from the City of Charles Sturt.

Drew will teach us about traditional plants and their uses, health benefits and how they tie in with stories and culture. Together we will plant a brand new bush tucker garden for our community to enjoy.

A community led day connecting First Nations people through conversation to inspire climate action, community impact and caring for Country.

Led by First Nations voices, the day brings community together to explore climate change, the environment, caring for Country and the role First Nations knowledge, leadership and practices play in creating positive change. Through workshops, discussions and collaborative conversations, participants will connect, share ideas, learn from one another and identify practical actions that create lasting impact for Country and community.

Guided by the themes of Connection. Action. Impact. Caring for Country, the day is designed to strengthen relationships, inspire collaboration and support community led responses to climate change. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful discussions, share experiences, build new relationships and help shape ongoing priorities for climate action and caring for Country.

More than a one day gathering, this is the beginning of an ongoing journey of connection, conversation and collective action. Our aim is for everyone to leave with new ideas, stronger relationships and a shared commitment to continue the conversation, care for Country and create lasting community impact.

The Emerging Leaders Expo is the flagship event for youth at Adelaide Climate Action Week. By young people, for young people.

Young South Australians aged 16-25 are doing serious climate work right now, in classrooms, communities, labs, art studios and on Country. Too often that work goes unseen and unconnected. The Expo exists to change that.

Whether you’re already deep in the climate space or just starting to find your way in, if you’re a young person engaged in or curious about climate action, this evening is for you. Climate action looks different across every community, industry and creative practice and all of it belongs in this room.

What to expect:

A space lined with posters showcasing climate projects led by young South Australians

Real conversations with the people behind the work

Networking games and a collective zine-making table

Mentors from across the climate sector ready to talk about your work, your ideas and what comes next, whether that’s a new collaborator, a pathway into the sector, or simply knowing you’re not doing this alone.

The format prioritises lateral connection over hierarchy. There is no main stage and no keynote. No polished pitch required.

The exhibited posters will be captured in a permanent digital archive on the ACAW website, giving visibility to the incredible work already being done by young people across this state.

Your poster can be about you and the climate work you’re doing, or about one specific project you’ve built, run, researched or made. Posters do not have to be fancy! They are a reference for discussion.

In the lead up to the Emerging Leaders Expo we will be providing support for those making posters including examples and an in person poster making a working bee, as well as being available to chat and answer any of your questions.

At the Emerging Leaders Expo there will be a designated period of time for those who have submitted posters to stand beside their poster and chat about their work as guests move through the space.

Hosted by Greybox Community Organisation Inc, the day aims to raise awareness of the importance of Grey Box trees. The Grey Box (Eucalyptus microcarpa) Grassy Woodlands was formerly widespread across south-eastern Australia. Today, only 10 to 15% of its original extent remains. In the weeks before the event, Yellow ribbons will be tied around Grey Box trees in City of Mitcham to highlight these special trees. Grey Box trees grow slowly and rarely reach a size where they are protected in South Australia. On Sunday 5 May 10AM - 4PM, at State Flora in Belair National Park, there will be a special on native plants 🌱🌲🍃🌱🌿🌳

Join us for this Special Edition of our monthly Full Moon Ride.

This month we are taking the ride to the bush! Meet at ABK from 6pm for a 6:30pm departure. We are CATCHING THE TRAIN from Mile End Station at 6:50pm to Belair. You will need to buy a train ticket for yourself but not your bike. OR you can meet us at Belair Station at 7:25pm.

We will enjoy special lakeside cake in Belair National Park and cruise the wide paved boulevards by the light of the big belly moon, once all the cars have left the park. We can return to town by train or ride down the hill! What ever suits the group on the night!

This is a free, open, social ride, all welcome!

Join local shell expert Peter Hunt and marine ecologist Dr Sue Murray-Jones on this guided beach combing session.

We’ll explore the tide line and jetty pylons, learning about the things we discover.

This is a fun way to learn about the beach environment through a hands-on experience.

This beach session is suitable for families with children of all ages. Adults and older children will learn so much about our local beach environment, whilst younger children will enjoy exploring the beach.

Please note that children must be accompanied by a guardian and be appropriately supervised by you at all times.

Adults are also welcome to attend without children, as there is so much all of us can discover and learn about our local environment.

Meeting Spot: Meet in the carpark to the north of the Largs Bay sailing club (on Lady Gowrie Drive, opposite Wigley Street). Please meet 5 minutes before the session starts.We will then wander along the beach towards the Largs Bay Jetty, before returning around 10.30am.

Take some time to find some stillness at the start of the new year and join us in beautiful Lartelare Park alongside the Port River and have a go at nature journaling.

Connect with nature while you learn to sketch, make notes and record your surrounds in a gentle, fun and supported way. Facilitated by Jenny Deans, this workshop invites you to explore your creativity and find some mindful moments considering whats growing around you, while developing your artistic skills.

No experience necessary - this relaxing workshop will introduce you to seeing nature in different ways. From complete beginners to the most experience artist, everyone will find new ways to connect through this session. All equipment provided and you will receive a notebook to take home with you and continue your nature journaling practice.

While this event is aimed at adults, families are also welcome to attend. Children will need to have a concession ticket, must be accompanied by a guardian and be appropriately supervised at all times. The workshop is generally suited to children over 8 years but may suit some younger children.

Lartelare is a beautiful, waterfront space to explore, observe and reflect. Lartelare was designed as a place to tell local Aboriginal stories and to recognise the birthplace of Lartelare. Full of local native plants, it is a space that combines indigenous culture, art, history, nature and play.

Parking is available under the Hart Street Bridge, accessed from Wirra Drive (note the nearest public toilets are a 5 minute walk away).

Please dress for the weather and remember to bring a hat, sunscreen, water bottle and snacks. In the morning, by the river, with shade from the bridge above, we should be protected from the worst of the summer heat.

The 2025 People’s Blockade is going to be huge, as people from around the country travel to Newcastle to make waves at the world’s largest coal port! However, this is not the end, it’s a jumping off point to continue our fight for an end to new coal and gas projects and a phase out of coal exports.

Whether or not you made it to the 2025 People’s Blockade, this picnic is an opportunity to debrief the exciting stories from the Blockade with people in your area, get involved in Rising Tide, and plan and stay connected as we continue the action in 2026.

Join us for the 2026 Bio·R Planting Festival at Frahns Farm, as we work together to reconstruct habitat for biodiversity!

We are continuing this year’s festival with two big weekends at Frahns Farm. Our goal over these four days is to plant 32,000 native seedlings, creating vital habitat for wildlife.

Bio·R is a South Australian grassroots charity dedicated to reconstructing habitats for native wildlife. Our ambitious long-term goal is to reconstruct 100 hectares per year by 2032, and 1000 hectares per year by 2045.

We are proud to bring you NAIDOC in the North.

A free, community event celebrating National NAIDOC week in Northern Adelaide. Together, we aim to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and share the oldest, continuous living culture to build a unified and stronger community.

NAIDOC in the North is about connecting and celebrating culture, sharing, education and providing opportunities to our community in one accessible and safe place. A place to form genuine partnerships and cross-cultural connections with community and Aboriginal led Organisations and share local talent, amplifying local Aboriginal voices, people and stories.

The event will include a welcome to country, cultural performances and activities, lunch provided and many more exciting things!

Aboriginal Sports & Games for kids Try traditional Aboriginal games, learn their cultural origins, and make a Parntu game ball in this fun, hands-on family workshop.

Explore a range of fun and challenging Aboriginal games while learning about their cultural origins. Try jumping, dodging, ball skills, marbles, bowling and precision-based team and solo games.

Children will also discover the Aboriginal origins of AFL and make a traditional possum or kangaroo skin Parntu (game ball). Presented by Walking Together with Kaurna.

Celebrating 50 Years of NAIDOC

The NAIDOC SA March and Family Festival is South Australia’s premier NAIDOC Week community event, bringing together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, organisations, allies and supporters to celebrate culture, achievement, resilience and the ongoing contributions of First Nations peoples.

The day will commence with the annual NAIDOC March through the Adelaide CBD, led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, Elders and leaders. The march provides an opportunity for people of all backgrounds to walk together in solidarity, celebrate the strength and diversity of First Nations cultures, and recognise the significance of 50 years of NAIDOC.

Following the march, participants will gather at the Parliament House steps for official welcomes and community addresses from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders, providing an opportunity to reflect on the history, achievements and future aspirations of First Nations peoples.

The celebrations will then continue at the NAIDOC SA Family Festival at Tarntanyangga (Victoria Square), featuring live music and cultural performances, community stalls, children’s activities, food vendors, cultural demonstrations, information services and opportunities to connect with community.

In 2026, NAIDOC SA proudly celebrates the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC, marking five decades of recognising and celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The event is free and open to all ages, creating a welcoming and inclusive space for community to come together, learn, celebrate and honour this significant milestone.

Join us for a fun and interactive family workshop exploring connection to Country through observation, creativity and culture. Guided by Kaurna ways of learning, families will enjoy hands-on activities including shadow drawing, bird observation, tasting bush teas and creating wind ribbons using natural and recycled materials. This relaxed, self-guided session encourages curiosity, connection and learning together, with activities and ideas families can continue at home.

Liesl from Walking Together with Kaurna will share songs, games and stories about Kaurna Culture and Country.

Liesl has, as much as possible, been creating the games to be played with a sense of authenticity i.e. the possum skin balls, the wooden marbles, the old wooden cotton spools. Games will include:

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll take the controls of En-ROADS: the world-renowned climate simulator built by MIT Sloan and Climate Interactive, used by governments, business leaders, and negotiators around the world. Pull the real levers of change: energy prices, renewables, transport, buildings, land use, population, economic growth, and watch the global temperature respond in real time.

Working in small teams, you’ll debate trade-offs, test your instincts against hard system dynamics, and discover which solutions actually move the needle, and which popular ideas barely shift the dial. Expect some surprises. Almost everyone’s first plan misses the mark, and that’s exactly where the learning starts.

Come ready to argue, experiment, and think like a planetary leader. You’ll leave with a genuine understanding of what it takes to solve climate change, and a sense of what’s truly possible.

No science background needed — just curiosity and a willingness to make some big decisions.

Agenda 1 The mission: You are now the CEO of Earth. You need to manage four goals: climate, nature, economy, and social justice.

2 Meet the simulator Live demo of En-ROADS. See how it responds and establish the baseline: where we’re heading under current policy, what you can do, and how you can see what was impacted.

3 Team huddle Groups of 3–5 form. Before touching the sim, each team debates and sketches a strategy on paper: what will they prioritise, and what will they trade off?

4 Take the controls Teams access the simulation and build their plan, testing levers against the four goals.

5 Report back Each team shares their headline result again one or more of the four goals e.g. final temperature, the economy, nature and social justice as well as one surprising thing they learned.

6 Debrief What actually worked, common traps, and how this maps to real-world action. Closing: what are we taking away?
