Tree-Tastic Community Event: Celebrating the Beauty of Adelaide’s Trees
– The Joinery
Conservation Council SA warmly invites you to our Tree-Tastic celebration. This event is an opportunity for us to take a moment to celebrate significant law reforms and community efforts in protecting our precious trees. The desperately needed reforms to the Planning Codes were enacted by the South Australian Government in May 2024. This has been an extraordinary effort from building the evidence base and mobilising community led by the Conservation Council SA, and we are very excited about celebrating this milestone with you. WHEN: Friday, 25th October 2024 WHERE: From 5pm at The Joinery 111 Franklin Street, Adelaide SA 5000 SPEAKERS: Be inspired to share our passion and continue as a united voice for trees protection in South Australia, with brief updates from Joanna Wells (previous tree campaign lead), Tom Morrison (on the law reform), Prof Chris Daniels (Green Adelaide’s Greening strategy) and, Jane Preston and Georgie Hart (our new volunteer tree campaigners). Note: Nibbles will be provided and a bar available with alcoholic beverages for purchase - please bring cash or a credit card with you to enjoy our bar service. Forest Fest - Adelaide
– Rewind Sound and Studios
Forest Fest Come along to our Forest Fest with a screening of Bob Brown Foundation’s film Takayna - Heart of Lutruwita at Rewind Sound and Studios. We will be running a costume making session in preparation for the March in March in Adelaide. Upskill yourself with sewing and designing costumes and puppets on the theme of Takayna endangered animals. We will be running this making session from 4pm. Along with a spoken word open mic starting at 5:30pm, environmental justice and nature themed poems and songs encouraged! The film screening will start at 7pm (runtime of 45mins). Laudato Si' Water Forum ("Water Wisdom: a conversation we need to have")

Pope Francis called us to care for our common home in Laudato Si’ and named the scarcity, depletion, wastage, pollution, quality, equity and control of water as a concern for us all. We need a “bold cultural revolution” in a time of drought and accelerating climate change. The Brighton Catholic Parish Ecology Group invites you to the Laudato Si’ Water Forum,a free Q&A discussion event where diverse perspectives on water and the environment will be shared: Indigenous, ecological, political, scientific, ethical, and spiritual. Discovery Walk - Wara Wayingga/Tennyson Dunes
– Inlet Reserve
Discovery Walks are designed to connect you with the nature and community and are offered by Port Environment Centre in the cooler months of the year, with a range of walking lengths and locations. We invite you to join us for a walk to Wara Wayingga - Tennyson Dunes. Learn about this fragile ecosystem and the valued work of volunteers to educate and protect by restoring natural habitats and minimising threats to the plants and animals that call this place home. This walk is approx. 5km over a 2 hour period and a good level of fitness is needed. Initially we walk 30 mins one way to Wara Wayingga - Tennyson Dunes Conservation Reserve where we meet up with local volunteers from the Tennyson Dunes Group to learn about their current program and the biodiversity within the dunes. We return along a different route on dune trails back to Inlet Reserve. What to wear/bring: - Comfortable walking shoes - Sun protection (hat, suncream, sunglasses) - Raincoat (if wet weather is forecast) - Filled water bottle - Snack/fruit - Backpack or bag to carry loose items - Personal items such as medications eg puffers - Camera (optional) Participants under the age of 18 years must have a registered ticket and be accompanied by an adult. Cancellation: We reserve the right to cancel if the weather forecast predicts unsafe conditions for our leaders and the public eg severe weather or thunderstorms – we will notify you with as much notice as possible should this happen. Please note that numbers are limited and everyone must book to attend please let us know if you have booked and then are unable to attend please stay home if you are unwell The Port Environment Centre is seeded by Green Adelaide. Attendee information may be used for follow up evaluation, in order to assess the longer term impacts of our events. Follow up contact may be made (in the form of a survey) but participation in any evaluation is optional. |
