Join Doctors for the Environment Australia for an interactive Climate Resilience Workshop designed to help you understand these risks and prepare for what lies ahead. Facilitated by DEA doctor members, these workshops provide a supportive space to learn, connect and take practical action.

The event creates a welcoming space for First Nations people to share stories, experiences and connection to Country, while exploring climate change, caring for Country and our shared responsibility to create a more sustainable future. Through creativity and conversation, the evening invites people to listen, learn, connect and reflect on the important role we all play in caring for Country.

More than a showcase, this is an opportunity to inspire action, strengthen relationships and build a shared commitment to caring for Country. Together, we’ll celebrate First Nations voices, deepen understanding and explore how culture, community and collective action can create lasting impact for future generations.

Whether you’re performing, sharing a story or simply coming along to listen, we’d love you to join us for an inspiring evening of connection with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Dr Sabine Dittmann is an internationally recognised marine ecologist. Her distinguished career has taken her to wetlands and tropical locations. She continues to provide advice to the Federal Government on biodiversity, Sabine will bring her deep appreciation of systems and how everything is connected from the moon, to the rivers and the ocean to this challenging conversation.

Ben Adams will bring his super coaching powers to this conversation from his experience in AI, cyber, space, and other advanced technology sectors. Ben believes deeply that the most important work happens when purpose-led people from across an entire system come together — not to protect their corner, but to see the whole picture.

Tony Shillitoe is a critically acclaimed author of scifi, fantasy, historical fiction and young adult novels who travels through time and space for inspiration and sources of truth. Retired, a reformed teacher of English and a student of contemporary politics, Tony believes that our future as a species lies in our ability to collaboratively understand and value our planet and all life on it because all life is utterly dependent on the planet’s health.

Moira Were AM has been hosting community conversations for decades on topics that help us reflect on the past, draw wisdom into our present choices and decisions to propel us forward to be good ancestors rather than prophets of doom. She is currently Mayor, City of Onkaparinga and hosting these conversations as a private citizen. This is not a program or service of City of Onkaparinga.

The co created statewide movement strategy brings together a diverse cohort of community members, grassroots groups, campaigners, volunteers, advocates, and organisations to create a shared vision and plan for our movement.

Through this process we

identify our movement’s strengths and needs

define our shared priorities and goals

develop a clear, practical plan on how to achieve this together

We’ve only just started and have already had one on one conversations with over 20 community organisers, campaigners, leaders, co-design experts, strategists, and movement builders to devise the plan for this co creation process.

Grounded in deep listening and cultural practice, Tjukurpa Kunpu tells stories of connection - to Tjukurpa, to each other, and to Country. These thirteen artists are connected from many places across regional South Australia, each of them with deep personal connections to curator Marli Macumba.

Marli Macumba is a Pitjantjatjara, Yankunytjatjara, Arrernte, and Gurindji artist and emerging curator. A Ku Arts First Nations Curators Program Alumni, Marli continues to illustrate her steadfast commitment to elevating First Nations voices through her curatorial practice with her solo curatorial debut, Tjukurpa Kunpu.

SAGE will now be held at YouthInc, an alternative school for 18-25 yr olds in a cool converted church on Pulteney St. We’re keen to build a mutual relationship with the generous YouthInc crew and help make the space our own for the long haul. Of course, SAGE is still (& will always be) for all ages. Young or old, parent or pensioner, first-timer or seasoned activist - everyone is welcome. So, to celebrate moving to our new home, the theme this month is “PLAY: Come over to our place” 🏡 The night will be created entirely by the community - anyone can bring a workshop or a discussion idea. MARSHAL + POLICE LIAISON TRAINING 🦺

Are you interested in finding out what’s involved in being a Marshal or Police Liaison?

Join our training at 3-5 pm Sunday July 5th, at The Dulwich Centre, 20 St John St, Tarntanya (Adelaide) - 2.45 for a 3 pm start!

These roles are part of the action support infrastructure (as well as Legal Observers, First Aid, etc.) that help keep events as safe as possible.

Bring along some friends too - roles like these are an excellent first step into the activist world as a complete newcomer!

One Nation is dominating the narrative right now – and it’s not because Pauline Hanson is suddenly more persuasive.

The hoarding of wealth and resources by the few has caused an economic crisis for the many, and the political mainstream are failing to put forward an ambitious solution people can get behind. When we fail to articulate a believable path out of a crisis, or worse stay silent for fear of getting it wrong, a vacuum appears. Enter One Nation who have filled it and, as a result, are dominating the mainstream media with divisive messages targeting people based on their race and gender, pitting communities against each other for political gain.

While the conversation is centred around Pauline Hanson’s sudden ascension to being preferred Prime Minister, social proofing for One Nation continues to climb, we continue to cede ground, and communities of colour and immigrants are rightly feeling abandoned.

Here’s what we know:

People are angry and outraged about the economic crisis, and billionaires have succeeded in scapegoating marginalised communities (including immigrants, trans people, and working class communities). Globally, anti-immigration parties are gaining in traction as a result.

Newer One Nation supporters are generally doing it tough and are looking for a way to protest and challenge the ‘political elite’ (aka major parties – and even civil society organisations), who they feel have failed them. They don’t always support One Nation policies, but are looking for alternatives that aren’t elitist. As a result, attacking Pauline Hanson in fact moves persuadables away from our messages of fairness and justice.

The solutions to improve the lives of everyday people are our solutions – real wage rises, tackling housing inequality, stemming corporate greed, ensuring access to public health and education – yet this is the opposite of the current conversation. Put simply: our messages aren’t cutting through.

We’ve invited Anat Shenker-Osorio to host a snap briefing to share frank advice on how we turn this around. Anat has spent years figuring out how progressive movements break out of this stagnation; build solidarity across race, class and genders; and give people a vision to get excited about. The briefing will include a presentation plus Q&A with Anat.

We live in a world of urgency, crises and finding immediate solutions. But many of the challenges we face aren’t technical, they are relational and systemic. They live in how we meet each other and how we perceive the living systems we’re part of and are in dynamic movement together.

In this Warm Data Lab*, you are invited to step out of fixing, ‘faster’, and fragmentation, into a space for collective conversation, creating conditions of the soil for new ideas and perceptions.

We won’t have panels, presentations or experts. There aren’t going to be five top actions you can take right now.

​​Just story-sharing across the many contexts that shape real life. And in this space of being together, we cultivate different conditions that may just allow some new insight or noticing.

​This is an invitation to slow down, arrive exactly as you are, with all your messy complexity, and be in the stories together. What happens if we shift the conditions that allow for possibility to emerge?

We are also hosting an event on Thursday 30th July 6.30-9pm for those unable to make this time.

Warm Data Labs were created by Nora Bateson as an approach for noticing and exploring complexity, by moving through it together.

In a Warm Data Lab, people share stories across the many contexts that shape their lives. The intention isn’t to achieve certain outcomes or solve problems, but because something often becomes visible in that crossing of perspectives that isn’t visible anywhere else. Its found in the gaps, the contradictions, the unexpected resonances between very different lives and experiences.

These labs can feel unfamiliar. As the process is both deeply familiar, and yet it doesn’t resolve to comfort or clarity. It is important to note that this is not a flaw in the design.

Warm Data itself is Nora Bateson’s term for information that is ‘alive’ and in movement. Information that keeps its context intact, the relationships, conditions and entanglements that give it meaning. Where most data strips that away, noticing warm data reveals these independencies and give us a deeper appreciation of our entanglement.

This event is designed for councils, asset managers, engineers, procurement teams and project managers interested in procuring and delivering low-carbon concrete and asphalt within local government.

The session will bring together professionals from local councils and industry to present case studies involving on how to specify and procure the right materials to move ahead in decarbonising South Australian infrastructure.

The session will explore the practical considerations of planning and delivering a low-carbon infrastructure projects - from early procurement conversations and specification development through to construction, quality assurance and on-site delivery – making implementation visible.

Speakers from different parts of the value chain will share practical experiences, lessons learned and best practices, helping participants understand how low-carbon materials can be specified, procured and delivered within existing council frameworks.

Networking Following the presentations, attendees are invited to stay for an hour of networking.

This provides an opportunity for councils, practitioners and suppliers to continue discussions, share experiences, ask practical questions and build the relationships needed to turn low-carbon ambitions into successful projects.
