Mount Barker District Council is proudly partnering with unique Adelaide Hills arts venue The Cheese Factory to present Tunes For Trees - two days of incredible live music, where every ticket sold contributes to restoring our beautiful local environment.

Running from 12pm-6pm on both Saturday and Sunday, Saturday’s lineup has a ‘modern folk’ feeling to it, with the award-winning talents of Naomi Keyte and Loren Kate. Sunday leans into sophisticated jazz vibes, with Dave McEvoy and Mélange Latino. There’s also a chance for Saturday’s attendees to join a Pop-Up Choir in the bar led by the amazing Natalie Ermer, while Sunday’s barflies can soak up the sounds of local piano prodigy, 17-year-old Jed Oster-Ives.

Every ticket sold includes a native tree sapling for the purchaser which can either be collected from the venue and planted at home or donated to Council’s community tree planting program. Additional native trees and plants will also be for sale on the day and there will be plenty of time to wander the gorgeous gardens of the Cheese Factory perusing the plant life on offer!

A full day across three working properties on the Fleurieu Peninsula, getting into the detail of what climate-smart farming actually looks like on the ground.

A webinar for Adelaide Climate Action Week exploring community approaches to caring for Adelaide’s coastline discussing the importance of community action to protect coastal ecosystems including coastal dunes, seagrass meadows, shellfish reefs, wetlands and mangroves.

The Coastal Dunes Rehabilitation Project working to restore natural dunes systems through vegetation management. The Living Shoreline Project measuring the effects of implementing bioengineered structures and transplantation of intertidal plants to mitigate climate driven inundation impacts in the Port River. The Seagrass for Snapper & Blue Swimmers Projects by OzFish uses community efforts to collect and propagate seagrass to restore seagrass meadows in the Port River and Adelaide coastal waters.

This event is an opportunity for us to take a moment to celebrate significant law reforms and community efforts in protecting our precious trees. The desperately needed reforms to the Planning Codes were enacted by the South Australian Government in May 2024. This has been an extraordinary effort from building the evidence base and mobilising community led by the Conservation Council SA, and we are very excited about celebrating this milestone with you.

Come along to our Forest Fest with a screening of Bob Brown Foundation’s film Takayna - Heart of Lutruwita at Rewind Sound and Studios. We will be running a costume making session in preparation for the March in March in Adelaide. Upskill yourself with sewing and designing costumes and puppets on the theme of Takayna endangered animals.

We will be running this making session from 4pm. Along with a spoken word open mic starting at 5:30pm, environmental justice and nature themed poems and songs encouraged! The film screening will start at 7pm (runtime of 45mins).

Discovery Walks are designed to connect you with the nature and community and are offered by Port Environment Centre in the cooler months of the year, with a range of walking lengths and locations.

We invite you to join us for a walk to Wara Wayingga - Tennyson Dunes.

Learn about this fragile ecosystem and the valued work of volunteers to educate and protect by restoring natural habitats and minimising threats to the plants and animals that call this place home.

This walk is approx. 5km over a 2 hour period and a good level of fitness is needed.

Initially we walk 30 mins one way to Wara Wayingga - Tennyson Dunes Conservation Reserve where we meet up with local volunteers from the Tennyson Dunes Group to learn about their current program and the biodiversity within the dunes. We return along a different route on dune trails back to Inlet Reserve.

What to wear/bring: - Comfortable walking shoes - Sun protection (hat, suncream, sunglasses) - Raincoat (if wet weather is forecast) - Filled water bottle - Snack/fruit - Backpack or bag to carry loose items - Personal items such as medications eg puffers - Camera (optional)

Participants under the age of 18 years must have a registered ticket and be accompanied by an adult.

Cancellation: We reserve the right to cancel if the weather forecast predicts unsafe conditions for our leaders and the public eg severe weather or thunderstorms – we will notify you with as much notice as possible should this happen.

We’ll be travelling at a casual pace and won’t be leaving anyone behind. However, these rides have been conceived as something of a ‘step up’ from our regular social rides, so if you’re thinking of attending please keep the following in mind: - We’ll be riding into the hills, so there’ll be climbing involved. At some points it’ll be so steep there’s no choice but to push your bike! Exercise makes you live longer, right? 😅 - Ensure you’re comfortable riding your bike on loose surfaces. We recommend a bike with a tyre of 35mm width minimum for comfort and control. - Bring along a spare tube or a way to fix punctures. - Ensure you bring adequate water and sunscreen. - Get your koala-spotting eyes ready. HELP GROW A GREENER FUTURE 💚 National Tree Day is on Sunday 26 July and you’re invited to join us at Springs Wetland from 10am - 2pm to plant native species and create habitat for local wildlife. Springs Wetland is a vital sanctuary for hundreds of local species providing shelter, food, roosting sites and breeding habitat. By planting native grasses, shrubs, groundcovers and trees, we’re helping restore and strengthen this valuable ecosystem - and create a home for local fauna now and into the future. National Tree Day celebrates its 30th birthday in 2026 so come along, get your hands dirty and enjoy a free BBQ - vegetarian options available.
