Celebrating powerful Aboriginal women from regional South Australia.

Grounded in deep listening and cultural practice, Tjukurpa Kunpu tells stories of connection - to Tjukurpa, to each other, and to Country. These thirteen artists are connected from many places across regional South Australia, each of them with deep personal connections to curator Marli Macumba.

Marli Macumba is a Pitjantjatjara, Yankunytjatjara, Arrernte, and Gurindji artist and emerging curator. A Ku Arts First Nations Curators Program Alumni, Marli continues to illustrate her steadfast commitment to elevating First Nations voices through her curatorial practice with her solo curatorial debut, Tjukurpa Kunpu.

With a strong focus on her home community in Port Augusta, she continues to champion opportunities for local artists to share their stories, celebrate culture, and strengthen intergenerational connections. This exhibition will reflect Marli’s evolving curatorial vision, one that centres community, culture, and Country.

Join us for a practical writing workshop on art writing for artists. Whether you want to develop your artist statement or build confidence to write about your own and others’ practices, this workshop identifies common challenges to arts writing and tips on how to overcome them.

Dr. Belinda Howden is a writer, researcher and curator specialising in contemporary Australian art. She is currently Assistant Editor at Artlink Magazine.

Take some time to find some stillness at the start of the new year and join us in beautiful Lartelare Park alongside the Port River and have a go at nature journaling.

Connect with nature while you learn to sketch, make notes and record your surrounds in a gentle, fun and supported way. Facilitated by Jenny Deans, this workshop invites you to explore your creativity and find some mindful moments considering whats growing around you, while developing your artistic skills.

No experience necessary - this relaxing workshop will introduce you to seeing nature in different ways. From complete beginners to the most experience artist, everyone will find new ways to connect through this session. All equipment provided and you will receive a notebook to take home with you and continue your nature journaling practice.

While this event is aimed at adults, families are also welcome to attend. Children will need to have a concession ticket, must be accompanied by a guardian and be appropriately supervised at all times. The workshop is generally suited to children over 8 years but may suit some younger children.

Lartelare is a beautiful, waterfront space to explore, observe and reflect. Lartelare was designed as a place to tell local Aboriginal stories and to recognise the birthplace of Lartelare. Full of local native plants, it is a space that combines indigenous culture, art, history, nature and play.

Parking is available under the Hart Street Bridge, accessed from Wirra Drive (note the nearest public toilets are a 5 minute walk away).

Please dress for the weather and remember to bring a hat, sunscreen, water bottle and snacks. In the morning, by the river, with shade from the bridge above, we should be protected from the worst of the summer heat.

We will postpone the event if the weather forecast is over 35 DecC and will notify you of this via email and sms. If we need to postpone, the backup date is Wednesday 29th Jan, 6pm - 8pm.

Ahmed is multidisciplinary artist based in Adelaide, working across a diverse range of media including drawing, photography, video, installation, animation, and illustration, his practice utilises, installation, typography, video, aural and visual archives related to his Palestinian identity to bring to light the ongoing injustice and the physical, cultural barriers it generates. ElKhalidi is known for his digital collages, which explore issues of identity and visual representations of home. Ahmed has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout Australia as well as internationally in Egypt, Jordan, Portugal and Spain

Join us for an afternoon of artist talks, green-thinking and community connection, exploring how artists collaborate with plants, landscapes and more-than-human worlds.

Shenshen Zheng will share her experiences working with peas (Pisum sativum) in her slow-moving plant performance Peas, Shoots and Leaves. Trudy Tandberg will speak about her work with limestone, saws and soil in Cleaving the Woakwine. Artist and ecologist Amber Cronin joins Stephanie Dodderidge and Danni Zuvela for an open conversation on ecologically engaged art in South Australia. To close the day, Heidi Kenyon will lead a casual discussion (and potential experiment) in guerilla gardening.

We’ll also be hosting a plant swap – bring a cutting and take home something new!

Join us at ACE on Saturday 21 February to celebrate the opening of Kumarangk.

About the Exhibition Kumarangk is an intergenerational love letter for Ngarrindjeri women; an exhibition that explores the survival of culture, and resistance to colonial destruction.

Kumarangk will showcase a mix of newly commissioned and existing works from Ngarrindjeri women artists. Sandra Saunders’ Hindmarsh Island Collection will be remounted for the first time since it was first exhibited 20 years ago, alongside a major new painting that will conclude the collection. Through a series of paintings and wire works, the Hindmarsh Island Collection retells the story of the building of the bridge to Kumarangk (colonially known as hindmarsh island) and the resistance of the Ngarrindjeri women and allies. 

The exhibition also features major new works from Mardawi Art Collective, which includes the legendary Aunty Ellen Trevorrow, alongside Elizabeth Rankine, Margi Sumner, Temeika Campbell, Bessie Rigney, Zemiah Campbell, Debra Rankine and Stephanie Russell. 

Kumarangk will also feature new weaving pieces from Aunty Betty Sumner, Sonya Rankine, Carly Tarkari Dodd and ceramics from Tiarnie Edwards.

The legendary Blak Nite returns to Carclew this May - in a powerful celebration of First Nations music, performance and culture.

Blak Nite 2026 will feature a dynamic mix of established and emerging First Nations artists, including performers from Carclew’s Gig Rig Tracks program, which delivers regional music and dance initiatives across Whyalla, Port Augusta and Ceduna,

Expect an exciting line-up of musicians, performers and dancers. Stay tuned as we reveal the full program of artists and performers - including the headline act - in the coming weeks.

Beyond the stage, Blak Nite will also feature visual artists, installations, makers and interactive workshops, bringing together a vibrant mix of creative practices. There will also be market and food stalls offering plenty of delicious options throughout the evening.

Nganampa Ngura - Our places Post Office Projects proudly presents a group exhibition created in partnership with fellow Port Adelaide contemporary arts organisation Iwiṟi Arts. Featuring paintings and ceramics, ‘Nganampa Ngura - Our places’ is a celebration of collaboration, country, community and culture.

“In our paintings, we are always painting about our own Country. Our places. We are painting as an expression of our own identity.”

Since its inception in 2021 Iwiṟi Art Studio has rapidly established itself as a highly regarded Studio. Iwiṟi creates a space for artistic expression that promotes cultural retention, transmission and wellbeing across the generations while also providing Aṉangu artists with commercial opportunities to produce economic benefit for their family and community.

NO WAVE is proud to present ART AS ACTION, a night of poetry, music and art to raise funds to support grassroots activism.

Join us on Wednesday July 1 at the Wheaty to hear talented local artists responding to the theme of ART AS ACTION. Art has always been a tool for collective liberation – a way to give marginalised people voice and agency, to build political momentum, and to tell alternative versions of the past, present and future. Now more than ever, we need to share stories, poems and songs that inspire us, radicalise us, move us to act, and connect us with other people and their struggles.

Nunga Screen offers an entertaining program of short films for all ages, showcasing the work of both emerging and established filmmakers.

The program includes inspiring documentaries, captivating stories, drama, animation, and a blend of contemporary and traditional storytelling. Dedicated to bringing communities together, Nunga Screen celebrates culture and fosters meaningful conversations with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The curated program has rolled out across South Australia for 15 years, reaching regional venues and communities, from cinemas and country halls to outdoor theatres.

The program is divided into two parts, with the first half being suitable for primary school-aged students and up.

Curated exclusively from films created by or in collaboration with First Nations filmmakers, writers and directors, Nunga Screen is an opportunity to experience stories from diverse perspectives. Venues and communities across the state are invited to host the event.

Join us for a hands-on experience these school holidays and learn with Country through story, creativity and connection.

In this workshop you will experience an Immersive Connection to Country and the sharing of games and stories about Aboriginal signs, symbols and Aboriginal art protocols. You will taste delicious quandong jam or a refreshing quandong syrup drink and learn about the health benefits and traditional uses of this remarkable native fruit.

Children will then create their own unique bracelet or keyring using real quandong seeds, decorating and crafting a special keepsake to take home.

Twenty-year-old Strathalbyn Artist and Designer Ami Jackson is using creativity as a platform for social change, launching a powerful collection of socially conscious products designed to spark conversation about global injustice, displacement and human rights.

On July 25, Ami will officially launch her exhibition and product range titled ‘Let’s TalkAbout Global Injustice’, featuring intentionally designed practical items including totebags, key rings and wearable art aimed at encouraging awareness, discussion,empathy and personal action.

Ami’s first launch collection focuses on Palestine and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza,using symbolism, culture and storytelling through design.

For Adelaide Climate Action Week join Tansy Curtin, Assistant Director in conversation with Dr Zoe Freney, artist, writer and academic as they discuss the intertwined relationship of artists and the environment.
