NAIDOC Week Native Plant Giveaway Holdfast Bay History Centre Verandah

Celebrate NAIDOC Week and help us restore indigenous biodiversity in the City of Holdfast Bay.

Do you live, run a business or are a school located in the City of Holdfast Bay? Want to reduce your water use in the garden whilst encouraging native birds, insects and animals? If so, bring along a bucket and claim 10 free local native plants for your garden (schools are entitled to 20 plants, please make 2 bookings if this is the case).

What you need to do:

Register to attend. Bookings are essential (schools can book 2 spaces)

Come along with a bucket or two, show us your rates notice or evidence of address, and we'll send you home with 10 free local native plants.

Book now to register your interest. Limit of 10 plants per household/business applies. Limit of 20 plants per school.

Come and join the community to plant native species at Tweeddale Reserve!

The City of Holdfast Bay is working to increase local native plant species and diversity in this beautiful urban reserve. We would like to invite you to join us for a fun morning of planting, followed by light snacks.

Please arrive at 10.15am to allow time for registrations, and to hear the safety briefing. You are welcome to stay for as long or as little time as you like. Light snacks will be provided at the end of the activity.

Bring along gardening gloves, a small hand trowel and water. Wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, closed toe shoes, safety or optical glasses and a hat or rain jacket (depending on the weather). We will provide any additional tools and equipment that are needed. Under 18s will need to be supervised at all times by a parent or guardian.

Bookings are essential to make sure we have enough equipment.

Get Shady Tree Giveaway 2026 - City of PAE Parks Library

FREE NATIVE TREES TO PLANT IN YOUR YARD

City of PAE residents can receive a free, native, tree to plant in your garden through the Get Shady program. This program aims to increase tree canopy, reduce urban heat and support biodiversity.

Small native trees (one per household) will be available for collection on a first-come, first serve basis anytime between 1pm-3pm on Saturday June 13th 2026 at the Parks Library, Angle Park.

Seven tree species will be available to choose from:

Golden Wattle (Acacia pycnantha)

Drooping Sheoak (Allocasuarina verticillata)

Silver Banksia (Banksia marginata)

Slender Cypress Pine (Calitris gracilus)

Mallee Box (Eucalyptus porosa) 

Native Apricot (Pittosporum angustifolium)

Quandong (Santalum acuminatum)

Information about each of these trees is available at Plant Selector Botanic Gardens SA. Knowledgeable staff will be available on the day to help you decide on the best tree to suit your property.

Large to medium native shrubs will also be available for those with smaller gardens that cannot accommodate a tree.

As this giveaway is only open to City of PAE residents, please bring along a form of ID such as driver’s licence, rates notice, or bill showing your name and address.
