Join us for a Guided Walk through the Park that is best-known as the site of the annual ‘Garden of Unearthly Delights’. This Park was once a despised rubbish dump and a quagmire. Learn about the huge efforts as early as the 1880’s to turn it into a much-loved outdoor venue space, as well as this Park’s role providing air raid shelters in WW2. Wear sturdy shoes for a walk of just over 1.5 km; 75 to 90 minutes duration. Children are very welcome. Dogs are also welcome, but on a lead, please.

Join CVA, the Port Environment Centre and PAE Council as we celebrate NAIDOC week at Barker Inlet Wetlands on Kaurna Country!

The day will start with a guided walk and talk with Bryce, a Kaurna and Ngarrindjeri man from Tarnda Experiences, who will share his knowledge of plants and their food and medicinal uses. We’ll then get our hands dirty and help plant over 150 native seedlings to create a beautiful bushfoods garden at the wetlands. Ellis Park / Tampawardli (Park 24) is best known as a venue for soccer and cricket. But it has some hidden remnants of rare native vegetation and is a key part of the Park Lands trail. One of the main features of this walk will be learning what USED to be here and is now long-forgotten.

If you’re new to bushcare and don’t know how it works that’s fine, we can help you find some easily identified weeds and show you how we remove them without causing damage to the native plants we are trying to protect.

A webinar for Adelaide Climate Action Week exploring community approaches to caring for Adelaide’s coastline discussing the importance of community action to protect coastal ecosystems including coastal dunes, seagrass meadows, shellfish reefs, wetlands and mangroves.

The Coastal Dunes Rehabilitation Project working to restore natural dunes systems through vegetation management. The Living Shoreline Project measuring the effects of implementing bioengineered structures and transplantation of intertidal plants to mitigate climate driven inundation impacts in the Port River. The Seagrass for Snapper & Blue Swimmers Projects by OzFish uses community efforts to collect and propagate seagrass to restore seagrass meadows in the Port River and Adelaide coastal waters.

AgriTech Meetup Fleurieu Road Trip for Climate Action Week — Friday 31 July

A full day across three working properties on the Fleurieu Peninsula, getting into the detail of what climate-smart farming actually looks like on the ground.

9:30 – 11:00 | Yundi Conservancy with John Fargher Swamp restoration and remote sensing — how technology is being used to monitor and recover a living landscape.

11:30 – 13:30 | Ashley Park Farm with Alistair Just Chickens in the rotational mix, dung beetles, pasture renovation and on-farm composting — a practical look at building soil health and closing nutrient loops.

Lunch supplied by Myponga Bakery

14:00 – 18:00 | ForkTree Project Presentations and hands-on shelterbelt planting, followed by a hog roast, bonfire and beers at sunset.

Resilient by Nature: Creating Climate-Resilient Native Habitats

Green Adelaide will help you discover how to create a thriving habitat for Adelaide’s native wildlife right in your own backyard!

This hands-on workshop introduces the key principles of wildlife friendly gardening, helping you discover which local animals are in your area, what they need to thrive, and how to design a space that supports them.

By choosing native plants and a smart design, you aren’t just helping local wildlife - you’re building climate resilience right where you live. Native habitats cope better with harsh summers, use less water, and provide vital cooling islands for local fauna. It’s a win-win for you and nature!

You’ll also get the chance to get your hands dirty! Participants will have the opportunity to plant local species in The Precinct’s garden, gaining practical, real-world planting skills.

What we’ll cover:

An introduction to Adelaide’s native flora and why it matters.

How to identify and protect the wildlife already visiting you.

Practical tips for a nature-rich, climate resilient garden.

Tips about nest boxes and other habitat features.

Simple ways to get started and make an immediate impact.

Come along, get inspired, and transform your backyard into a thriving, resilient haven for local wildlife!

Plus, all participants will take home their own native plant to kickstart their backyard habitat.

Afternoon tea provided.

We’re calling on local families, children and nature lovers to help discover, identify and record as many plant, animal and fungi species as possible in our local area.

It’s a great chance to get outdoors, learn about local biodiversity and contribute to important community science. This will allow us to monitor changes over time, particularly with the projected impacts of climate change.

Monthly social rides are BACK! Join us for an all-ages, all-abilities ride on a Saturday morning! We’ll be travelling on some fantastic bike paths in and around Unley, and are likely to finish with coffee on the way. Meet at 8:45am for a 9am start. Mount Barker District Council is proudly partnering with unique Adelaide Hills arts venue The Cheese Factory to present Tunes For Trees - two days of incredible live music, where every ticket sold contributes to restoring our beautiful local environment.

Running from 12pm-6pm on both Saturday and Sunday, Saturday’s lineup has a ‘modern folk’ feeling to it, with the award-winning talents of Naomi Keyte and Loren Kate. Sunday leans into sophisticated jazz vibes, with Dave McEvoy and Mélange Latino. There’s also a chance for Saturday’s attendees to join a Pop-Up Choir in the bar led by the amazing Natalie Ermer, while Sunday’s barflies can soak up the sounds of local piano prodigy, 17-year-old Jed Oster-Ives.

Every ticket sold includes a native tree sapling for the purchaser which can either be collected from the venue and planted at home or donated to Council’s community tree planting program. Additional native trees and plants will also be for sale on the day and there will be plenty of time to wander the gorgeous gardens of the Cheese Factory perusing the plant life on offer!

Tunes for Trees is part of the inaugural statewide climate action festival Adelaide Climate Action Week which runs from Monday 27 July until Sunday 2 August.

In collaboration with the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) comes the Climate-Conscious Scavenger Hunt in Tarndanya/Adelaide!

FREE COMMUNITY EVENT - SPACES ARE LIMITED

Discover the Adelaide CBD through a green lens. The hunt includes a variety of fun, interactive challenges, allowing you to observe biodiversity, find green initiatives, and propose areas for improvement on how we can better embrace and collaborate with nature in our beautiful city.

We will meet at the Adelaide Riverbank Lawns at 2pm, have a brief introduction and welcome circle before splitting off into groups and beginning the challenge. Please aim to arrive 10 minutes early so we have optimal scavenging time!

The hunt aspect is purely to discover the wonders of the beautiful land in Tardanya/Adelaide, you will be asked to take some photos, but please do not touch or interact with plants or wildlife that you may encounter along the experience.

Come along to meet new people, find out how you can be more active in the community, and come away with a strengthened love for the environment.

Psst, yes, there’ll be a prize for the team with the most points but everyone gets a little something to say thank you for coming!

A two-hour Guided Walk, learning about one of the best-loved parts of the Park Lands, along the banks of the Torrens, home to a variety of public art works, significant heritage trees, University facilities, many ducks, and much more. Features include the first arboretum in South Australia, the memorial to Forgotten Australians, Peace Park, Angas Gardens, Grundy Gardens and the Pioneer Women’s Memorial Garden. Wear sturdy shoes for a walk of just over 2km, around two hours duration. Dogs are welcome, but on a lead, please.
