This session is for you! There will be an extra treat for anyone who hasn’t come to an event before, or anyone who brings someone new!

During this session we’re going to let you all bring a +1 into the space, that can be a family member, friend, partner, support worker or whoever else.

For our regular attendees, the session will feel like a pretty normal social session, but we’ll split up into groups for a bit during the session to chat with the support people you bring along and give them the chance to have a judgement free conversation about how they can best support you & the other trans people in their lives!

Queer Visions: Out of the Archive - Formative Australian Documentaries Mercury Cinema

Join us for an evening of formative Australian queer documentary cinema as we present Witches and Faggots, Dykes and Poofters (dir. Digby Duncan, 1980, 45 mins), depicting the grassroots meetings, strategies, and organising efforts of Sydney’s lesbian and gay activists leading up to the first Mardi Gras in 1978; and, Homosexuality: A Film for Discussion (dir. Barbara Creed, 1975, 43 mins), a series of candid testimonies from homosexual men and women, capturing a diverse range of perspectives on homosexuality during a time when it was still criminalised in all Australian states and territories. These two groundbreaking Australian documentaries were critical to the primary shaping of early queer political resistance and are not just historical artefacts — they are living records of protest, and capture critical political action. Archival queer films remind us of the work that has come before and challenge us to see the present in relation to these earlier struggles.

Short introduction from esteemed scholar Barbara Creed, followed by a post-film discussion and live readings of archival materials.

Queer Visions is supported by UniSA Justice and Society and Network for Studies in Gender, Sexualities and Equity.

Embrace the allure of the unknown, letting the smooth grooves and rich aromas transport you. Lounge in a space that invites mixing, sharing, and playing—where every note and every glance whispers possibilities.

Who will you become tonight?

Event Breakdown:

We’ll greet ya at the door, tick ya name off and give you a name card.

★ Name Game: You never know who you’ll meet. Get given a guests name upon arrival and make it your mission to find them. There’s a question on the back to ask them if you’d like. This game creates chatter, banter and memories. The connections are boundless.

Note: Once you ask someone their name, even if it is NOT your person, you should exchange questions (-:

★ Call me cards: Keep in contact with each other. Write your details down on one of the ‘Call me Cards’ displayed around the venue. It’s a lovely gesture, an old fashion trick that works like charm!

Third Rodeo Background

At Third Rodeo, we believe in creating a warm and inviting space for the Lesbian and Queer community to thrive. Our events are designed specifically for individuals in their 20s and up, providing a dedicated environment where you can make meaningful connections.

Our philosophy is simple. We are your Third home.

Whether you come solo or with friends, or if its your First or Third Rodeo, you’ll find our atmosphere relaxed, charming, and just a little bit cheeky! We’re all about bringing people together, and we’re thrilled to have hosted successful events in Naarm/Melbourne, Gadigal Land/Sydney, Meanjin/Brisbane and Boorloo/Perth. Many of my own beautiful queer friendships have blossomed from these gatherings, and I can’t wait for you to experience the same.

I know it can be intimidating to show up alone, but trust me—you’re not alone in that feeling. Everyone is here for the same reason: to connect and find their community. You’ll quickly find that our crowd is warm, friendly, and welcoming!

Thank you for supporting our Lesbian/Non-Binary led small business. Your encouragement means the world to us, and I adore each and every one of you. I can’t wait to see you at our next event!

With love,

TR.
