In collaboration with the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) comes the Climate-Conscious Scavenger Hunt in Tarndanya/Adelaide!

FREE COMMUNITY EVENT - SPACES ARE LIMITED

Discover the Adelaide CBD through a green lens. The hunt includes a variety of fun, interactive challenges, allowing you to observe biodiversity, find green initiatives, and propose areas for improvement on how we can better embrace and collaborate with nature in our beautiful city.

We will meet at the Adelaide Riverbank Lawns at 2pm, have a brief introduction and welcome circle before splitting off into groups and beginning the challenge. Please aim to arrive 10 minutes early so we have optimal scavenging time!

The hunt aspect is purely to discover the wonders of the beautiful land in Tardanya/Adelaide, you will be asked to take some photos, but please do not touch or interact with plants or wildlife that you may encounter along the experience.

Come along to meet new people, find out how you can be more active in the community, and come away with a strengthened love for the environment.

Psst, yes, there’ll be a prize for the team with the most points but everyone gets a little something to say thank you for coming!

Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult but only need to reserve for one place

There’s also a chance for Saturday’s attendees to join a Pop-Up Choir in the bar led by the amazing Natalie Ermer, while Sunday’s barflies can soak up the sounds of local piano prodigy, 17-year-old Jed Oster-Ives.

Every ticket sold includes a native tree sapling for the purchaser which can either be collected from the venue and planted at home or donated to Council’s community tree planting program. Additional native trees and plants will also be for sale on the day and there will be plenty of time to wander the gorgeous gardens of the Cheese Factory perusing the plant life on offer!

Tunes for Trees is part of the inaugural statewide climate action festival Adelaide Climate Action Week which runs from Monday 27 July until Sunday 2 August.

Wagtail Urban Farm went out with a bang in the beginning of 2023. After having to leave the site that they tended in Mitchell Park for 10 years, the gardening bug bit harder than ever!

Since then, Carla and Steven have been busily plotting how they would improve their micro-scale, homegrown set up again if they could start from scratch.

“Waggie Two” is just that. Using a northern face to capture as much sunlight as possible, limiting nutrients that leave the property and using every spare centimetre to grow food or habitat, their new endeavour, even in it’s infancy, is already taking shape and showing what is possible on a suburban block!

Green Adelaide will help you discover how to create a thriving habitat for Adelaide’s native wildlife right in your own backyard!

This hands-on workshop introduces the key principles of wildlife friendly gardening, helping you discover which local animals are in your area, what they need to thrive, and how to design a space that supports them.

By choosing native plants and a smart design, you aren’t just helping local wildlife - you’re building climate resilience right where you live. Native habitats cope better with harsh summers, use less water, and provide vital cooling islands for local fauna. It’s a win-win for you and nature!

A webinar for Adelaide Climate Action Week exploring community approaches to caring for Adelaide’s coastline discussing the importance of community action to protect coastal ecosystems including coastal dunes, seagrass meadows, shellfish reefs, wetlands and mangroves.

The Coastal Dunes Rehabilitation Project working to restore natural dunes systems through vegetation management. The Living Shoreline Project measuring the effects of implementing bioengineered structures and transplantation of intertidal plants to mitigate climate driven inundation impacts in the Port River. Join us at the Flinders Park Community Garden for a hands on gardening experience. Our community garden is a free space where anyone can pick what they need, and meet their local community in a friendly relaxed atmosphere.

This workshop will be presented by Drew Kilner from Walking Together with Kaurna, alongside Steven Hoepfner from the City of Charles Sturt.

Drew will teach us about traditional plants and their uses, health benefits and how they tie in with stories and culture. Together we will plant a brand new bush tucker garden for our community to enjoy.

Bring your family down to Largs Beach in the January school holidays and learn all about the amazing things we can find right here on our local beaches.

Join local shell expert Peter Hunt and marine ecologist Dr Sue Murray-Jones on this guided beach combing session.

We’ll explore the tide line and jetty pylons, learning about the things we discover.

This is a fun way to learn about the beach environment through a hands-on experience.

This beach session is suitable for families with children of all ages. Adults and older children will learn so much about our local beach environment, whilst younger children will enjoy exploring the beach.

Please note that children must be accompanied by a guardian and be appropriately supervised by you at all times.

Adults are also welcome to attend without children, as there is so much all of us can discover and learn about our local environment.

Meeting Spot: Meet in the carpark to the north of the Largs Bay sailing club (on Lady Gowrie Drive, opposite Wigley Street). Please meet 5 minutes before the session starts.We will then wander along the beach towards the Largs Bay Jetty, before returning around 10.30am.

What to bring:

• Please dress for the weather (sun safe clothing, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses)
• Bring your water bottle and snacks
• Bring along a bucket or small bag to hold what you find
• We recommend you wear appropriate footwear and clothing to safely explore the beach environment.

HELP GROW A GREENER FUTURE 💚 National Tree Day is on Sunday 26 July and you’re invited to join us at Springs Wetland from 10am - 2pm to plant native species and create habitat for local wildlife. Springs Wetland is a vital sanctuary for hundreds of local species providing shelter, food, roosting sites and breeding habitat. By planting native grasses, shrubs, groundcovers and trees, we’re helping restore and strengthen this valuable ecosystem - and create a home for local fauna now and into the future. National Tree Day celebrates its 30th birthday in 2026 so come along, get your hands dirty and enjoy a free BBQ - vegetarian options available. Join our Northern Suburbs Branch for our FREE Community BBQ! Free food and free giveaways, like clothing and other donated items. There are often other activities, like facepainting, or balloon blowing, and definitely some conversation and connecting!!

The BBQ area and playground are accessible, however be aware there is a large pond also if you have young children.

Anti-Poverty Network SA is a volunteer-run community advocacy group, made-up of job-seekers, pensioners, carers, students, sole parents, and allies, advocating for dignity and justice for all low-income people. We are often joined at the BBQ’s by other organisation and are supported by the Playford Women’s Shed.

This event is sponsored by local businesses and is for members, supporters, and the community, to have a chance to socialise, have a chat about shared challenges, or maybe to seek some information on how to navigate the challenges associated with life, especially when living in poverty. Geoff Wood – Stratigrapher, on the importance of sand dunes and coastal vulnerability due to climate change. Danny Millbanks – Coastal Conservation Officer, on the importance of dune vegetation, stability and biodiversity in coastal dunes systems. Semaphore Largs Dunes Group about their work in caring for the sand dunes along this section of the coast.
