Join our Northern Suburbs Branch for our FREE Community BBQ! Free food and free giveaways, like clothing and other donated items. There are often other activities, like facepainting, or balloon blowing, and definitely some conversation and connecting!!

The BBQ area and playground are accessible, however be aware there is a large pond also if you have young children.

Anti-Poverty Network SA is a volunteer-run community advocacy group, made-up of job-seekers, pensioners, carers, students, sole parents, and allies, advocating for dignity and justice for all low-income people. We are often joined at the BBQ’s by other organisation and are supported by the Playford Women’s Shed.

This event is sponsored by local businesses and is for members, supporters, and the community, to have a chance to socialise, have a chat about shared challenges, or maybe to seek some information on how to navigate the challenges associated with life, especially when living in poverty. You can also learn more about who we are; what we do; and how you can get involved.

If anyone would like to support the Northern Branch BBQ’s there are many ways to do so. Financial donations can be made on our website and if you would like to support the BBQ through other means, or if you have clothing or other donations, please email for more information.

Hello friends,

After our first three hugely enjoyable and successful BBQs we’ve set the dates for the rest of 2026! The BBQs are held on the third Sunday every second month, at QT Hub, 11 am - 2pm:

17 May 19 July 20 September 15 November

The BBQ is about more than sharing a meal - it’s about coming together, supporting one another, and building a culture of care and connection, especially at a time when the cost-of-living crisis and fuel crisis is affecting so many in our community.

We will have a range of meat, vegan, vegetarian, halal and gluten-free options available.

We’re also hosting a Pop-up Op Shop with all kinds of free items for children and adults. The Peoples’ Library will also be there with a selection of books for you to borrow.

You’ll also have an opportunity, if interested, to learn more about the Anti-Poverty Network and how to become involved with anti-poverty work.

The venue is accessible and we also provide transport support.

🌲🌿🌳🌱🍃 Hello all plant lovers!! 🌳🌿🍃🌱🌲 Grey Box Day is coming up again soon, on Sunday 5 May, 10am-4pm. Hosted by Greybox Community Organisation Inc, the day aims to raise awareness of the importance of Grey Box trees. The Grey Box (Eucalyptus microcarpa) Grassy Woodlands was formerly widespread across south-eastern Australia. Today, only 10 to 15% of its original extent remains. In the weeks before the event, Yellow ribbons will be tied around Grey Box trees in City of Mitcham to highlight these special trees. Grey Box trees grow slowly and rarely reach a size where they are protected in South Australia. On Sunday 5 May 10AM - 4PM, at State Flora in Belair National Park, there will be a special on native plants 🌱🌲🍃🌱🌿🌳

The Family Festival will be held at Adelaide Festival Plaza & Elder Park (not Victoria Square) and will start at the conclusion of the NAIDOC march. This Festival will have something for everyone from the organisation stalls, live entertainment and music, activities for the kids, amusement rides, food trucks and BBQ. This is an alcohol-free event.

Walk, Ride or Drive with Cedric Varcoe and Aunty Angelena Harradine Buckskin on this healing journey to honour our sea kin affected by algal blooms. An algal bloom has been devastating our sea and land kin across the southern coastline. We invite everyone to play a part in carrying A message stick from Warland Reserve in Victor Harbor to Amelia Park Playground in Goolwa to let our kin know that we hear them.

Join Cedric Varcoe, Local Ramindjeri Cultural Leader, and Aunty Angelena Harradine Buckskin, proud Cultural Woman of the Ngadjuri, Kaurna, Narungga and Ngarrindjeri Nations, on this healing journey across Ramindjeri and Ngarrindjeri land to honour land and sea country together.

Details of accessibility information and timing to come. At a high level: 9am: Everyone is welcome to gather at Warland Reserve Victor Harbor 9.30am-1pm: Everyone is invited to make their way by preferred means (e.g. walk, roll, run, skate, ride or drive) from Victor Harbor to Goolwa. There will be stops along the way, signage and volunteers to support people to get from start to finish, and to return to their car. 1pm-4pm: Community gathering including a BBQ, music and an open mic at Amelia Park Reserve, Goolwa
