Culture: The Life of our City (10 yr strategic plan) - Give Community Feedback to Adelaide City Council
through Desk Action

The City of Adelaide is developing a new Cultural Policy aimed at promoting and strengthening the city’s unique cultural identity and opportunities. A Cultural Policy will provide the framework for future decisions in relation to culture.

The development of a Cultural Policy must have the community it serves at its core. Culture, just like the city, is about people, and so the Cultural Policy will be developed through stages of consultation and planning.

Your input is crucial!

We’re in the early stages, and we need your feedback to strengthen, clarify or expand on the Themes and Priorities we’ve shared in our discussion paper.

Your feedback will guide the development of the Cultural Policy and help ensure the final policy reflects your vision and views for the cultural life of Adelaide through to 2036.

The project has two main stages:

Stage 1: Gathering insights and feedback from the community that will help shape the draft Cultural Policy.
Stage 2: Asking for feedback on the draft Cultural Policy, to check we've got it right!

The Cultural Policy will outline Council’s role, its vision, goals and priorities, and how it will evaluate and communicate the impact of its investment and efforts towards a culturally vibrant, socially inclusive and equitable city. Culture and creativity are critical to the City of Adelaide’s future prosperity, wellbeing and social cohesion, and the City of Adelaide is a custodian of this future.

We are currently in Stage 1 of the project. Feedback closes 5:00pm, Friday, 31 January 2025.

Complete the survey to enter the prize draw for a chance to WIN one of three $100 Adelaide Central Market Vouchers.

Write a submission: Inquiry into nuclear power generation in Australia
through Desk Action

The Federal Parliament has established an inquiry to consider the potential role of nuclear power in Australia. Nuclear power would seriously obstruct the renewable energy transition by funneling public money away from viable and cost-effective renewable energy solutions.

Please make a submission to the inquiry.

The easiest way to make a submission is to add your name and suburb to the top of the online submission here (follow website link), replace the text in brackets with a sentence about why you feel strongly about this, then click the green 'Send my submission' button. Feel free to choose some of the arguments in the text and add your own comments.

Greater Adelaide Regional Plan - Consultation closing
Desk

The State Planning Commission (the Commission) has released the Greater Adelaide Regional Plan (the Plan) and want to hear from community, councils and industry on how we sustainably prepare for future growth.

The Plan set outs a long-term vision for Greater Adelaide, detailing where people will live and work, how they will move around and where they will access services. It provides data and recommendations for managing growth and adapting to changes in our community and urban environment.

Submission: You can fill their form or can be as simple as emailing them whatever you want to say. Emailing a submission to plansasubmissions@sa.gov.au with the subject line: Submission: Greater Regional Adelaide Plan

Desk Action added by SAGE

Here is the SAGE submission from the last round in November 2023. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KL04Xr77WIdicq58ozY5Q4pb-G97R7Vzrrh9EZNe4N4/edit?tab=t.0

Seems they've ignored a lot including ignoring requests to have more rail and walkable cities. Requests to ensure that rails and trams are foregrounded in the plans is very valuable.

Also requesting that young people are seeking affordable multi-story living within a short (20min) commute of the city

(Dont say "15 min cities", its a right-wing trigger word now)

Kaurna Yetra Abolitionist Network : Card writing for women in prison (An act of solidarity and care for the holiday season)
Intersection Traders/Some Where House

There are a few ways you can sending some solidarity to folks incarcerated in the Adelaide Women’s Prison this holiday period.

We are hoping to pull together messages of solidarity for all 272 humans detained in the AWP this Christmas. We know its super late notice, but we only just found out the program has the go-ahead this year and need all cards back by the night of Tuesday 10th.

A huge thanks to all who came out to Tuesday’s Yarn and Weave workshop, where we unpacked what we mean by prison/carceral abolition, carceral logics and the ways they infuse all of ours lives, whether we are criminalised or not, and why it is so important that we challenge these and building practices of transformative justice and community care in ours lives. For those who missed out, we will be hosting another similar workshop in the new year.

As discussed on Tuesday, there are a few ways you can sending some solidarity to folks incarcerated in the Adelaide Women’s Prison this holiday period.

We are hoping to pull together messages of solidarity for all 272 humans detained in the AWP this Christmas. We know its super late notice, but we only just found out the program has the go-ahead this year and need all cards back by the night of Tuesday 10th

How you can get involved:

Attend the card writing meet up next week (drop in from 6-9pm Tuesday the 10th at Intersection Traders), pop into the Adelaide Bike Kitchen/Duck Radio (details attached), write some by yourself OR host your own meet up.

Do you have a team meeting, a network, a friends potluck, a Christmas party, a family dinner, a child’s kindergarten (children’s drawings are particularly treasured) that you could tap into to help us achieve this goal?

Venue is wheelchair accessible, but unfortunately does not have accessible toilets. The nearest accessible toilets are 200m away at the OTR. If you have any suggestions for accessible, free/low cost venues please do reach out as we recognise that this is a barrier for members of our community.
