[Abolitionist Network KY] Youth Bail Law Changes: Submission Writing Meetup #1
Enter via the back, from Gunson Street. The meeting area is wheelchair accessible, though please note the toilets on-site are not fully accessible. The nearest accessible toilets are about 250m away at the BP. We’ll have the garage doors open for airflow and strongly encourage masking if you’re able. Please note, due to mental health, trauma related needs and/or neurodivergence both of the facilitators are unable mask, but will RAT in the days prior to, and on the day of, the meet up.

Description
A huge thank you to everyone who joined our session at SAGE last Sunday. For those who couldn’t make it, we held a discussion on the SA Government’s proposed changes to youth bail laws.
These proposed reforms represent a dangerous escalation of carceral policy. They are predicated on a falsely constructed youth crime crisis narrative (despite youth crime consistently declining over the past ten years). These changes are not about safety - they are about control, punishment, and expanding state power over the lives of marginalised young people, especially Aboriginal children and those already failed by health, housing, education, and disability systems.
The government is currently accepting public feedback on these changes. If you’re interested in writing a submission, details are below.
Submissions close: Wednesday 20 August Email submissions to: LLPSubmissions@sa.gov.au
