DESCRIPTION:About the workshop:&#13\;\n&#13\;\nIn many spaces suicide dis
tress is discussed through a risk-averse lens that centres organisationa
l safety over human connection. Part of having a more human approach to
supporting people starts with addressing common myths and misconceptions
about suicide\, as well as approaching the support in a way that uphold
s dignity\, autonomy\, and human rights. This workshop aims to build the
skills of attendees\, is built on the foundations of lived experience w
isdom and is facilitated by people with lived experience of suicide dist
ress.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nWho this workshop is for:&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThis works
hop is for lived experience community members that want to learn skills
around more compassionately supporting people in distress who may be exp
eriencing suicidal thoughts.&#13\;\n&#13\;\nAt LELAN we define lived exp
erience as having been through mental health issues and/or distress\, so
cial issues\, or injustice that is so significant we have to have to rei
magine and redefine ourselves\, our place in the world\, and our future
plans [Louise Byrne &amp\; Til Wykes\, 2020].&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThemes cove
 red:&#13\;\n&#13\;\n common myths and misconceptions&#13\;\n&#13\;\n
addressing who risk-averse approaches really protects&#13\;\n&#13\;\n
the reality of harm caused by clinical approaches\, police\, and for
ced interventions&#13\;\n&#13\;\n what it really looks like when dign

suicide distress that are centred in compassion&#13\;\n&#13\;\nStructure

#13\;\nWorkshop facilitator:&#13\;\n&#13\;\nThe lead facilitator for thi

.org.au/our-people. &#13\;\n&#13\;\n*If you have not registered for the
'Sharing Safely and for Influence' online module\, or have not completed
this previously with LELAN\, we encourage you to do so. &#13\;\n&#13\;\
nThe 'Sharing Safely and for Influence' content will encourage reflectio

de a foundation to work from leading into the workshop days. For more in
